Inter Milan striker Marcus Thuram has expressed his belief that the recent Champions League final loss does not represent the team`s last chance for success. In an interview with The Athletic, Thuram shared his thoughts on the disappointing 5-0 defeat to PSG and the team`s outlook moving forward.
“We faced the best team in the world, and nothing worked for us that day,” Thuram explained. “However, our Champions League campaign shouldn`t be defined by this single game. We had impressive performances against top teams like Barcelona and Bayern Munich.”
Drawing inspiration from NBA star Giannis Antetokounmpo, Thuram emphasized the importance of the journey, not just the final result. “As Giannis said, Michael Jordan didn`t fail when he wasn`t winning championships. There`s value in the entire process that brings us to the final.”
Despite the lack of trophies in the 2024-25 season, Thuram remains positive about Inter`s achievements. “If I had to sign up for this kind of season again, reaching the final every time, I would. That`s what we should remember.”
Thuram also commented on the recent coaching change, with club legend Cristian Chivu replacing Simone Inzaghi. “Cristian has Inter`s DNA in his veins. He understands the club`s essence.”
Looking to the future, Thuram dismissed the notion that the Champions League final was Inter`s last opportunity for glory. “Most of the team that played in the final is still under contract. We have many seasons ahead, and I have many more with Inter. It wasn`t our last chance, just a missed one.”
Currently sidelined with an injury, the 27-year-old French international has contributed significantly this season, scoring 18 goals and providing 9 assists in 49 appearances across all competitions for the Nerazzurri.
