Torino Robbed of Late Equalizer in Double Touch Drama

In a match that ended in controversy, Torino saw their hopes of securing a point against Como dashed when Ivan Ilic’s late equalizer was disallowed. The incident, which occurred at Stadio Sinigaglia, has drawn parallels to a recent high-profile case in the Champions League.

Ilic appeared to have leveled the score in the dying moments of the game, capitalizing on a rebound from a corner kick taken by Cristiano Biraghi. However, celebrations were cut short as VAR intervened, leading to the goal being chalked off.

Slow-motion replays revealed that Biraghi had inadvertently made contact with the ball twice while executing the corner kick. This double touch violation resulted in the disallowance of Ilic’s goal, leaving Torino empty-handed.

The situation bears a striking resemblance to a recent incident in the Champions League Round of 16 between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid. In that match, Atletico’s Julian Alvarez had a penalty goal disallowed during the shootout due to a similar double-kick infraction.

Both Biraghi and Alvarez lost their footing just before striking their respective set pieces, leading to the accidental second touch. These incidents highlight the fine margins and strict interpretations of rules in modern football.

As a result of this controversial decision, Torino suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat away from home, adding to the frustration of what could have been a hard-earned point.
