Torino Sporting Director Criticizes VAR Decision in Match Against Genoa
Following the draw between Torino and Genoa, Torino’s sporting director Davide Vagnati spoke to Sky Sport to express his disappointment with the VAR’s decision not to review a potential penalty incident involving Sabelli and Sanabria in the closing moments of the match.
Vagnati stated, “We’re not angry, but we are disappointed. The technology is there to correct clear errors made on the field. Sanabria was unable to jump because Sabelli brought him down. I don’t understand why VAR didn’t intervene. This was a clear penalty. The referee can make mistakes, but it doesn’t make sense that he wasn’t called to review the incident. The ball was heading towards our striker.”
Commenting on the overall match performance, Vagnati added, “We played a serious game. We conceded an avoidable goal, but we put in a good performance. The issue isn’t about winning or losing, but rather that VAR should assist when there are errors.”
The sporting director’s comments highlight the ongoing debates surrounding the implementation of VAR in football and its role in crucial decision-making during matches.
