Tottenham Eyeing Surprise Move for Chelsea Defender Tosin Adarabioyo
Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly considering a surprise January move for Chelsea defender Tosin Adarabioyo as manager Ange Postecoglou looks to bolster his backline options.
With Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven nearing returns from injury, Postecoglou is keen to avoid another defensive crisis that saw teenage midfielder Archie Gray forced to fill in at center-back recently. The Spurs boss has made signing another central defender a priority before the transfer window closes.
Adarabioyo, who joined Chelsea on a free transfer from Fulham last summer, has struggled for consistent playing time at Stamford Bridge. The 27-year-old could find himself surplus to requirements again with Chelsea recalling Trevoh Chalobah and pursuing Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi.
Tottenham are monitoring Adarabioyo’s situation closely, viewing him as a potential solution to their defensive depth issues. The £120,000-per-week defender’s pace and aerial ability could suit Postecoglou’s high defensive line.
Former Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola previously praised Adarabioyo’s physical attributes and work ethic, describing him as “fast, strong in the air” with good passing ability.
While other targets like Lens’ Abdukodir Khusanov and AC Milan’s Fikayo Tomori have been linked, Adarabioyo represents an intriguing Premier League-proven option for Spurs as they look to solidify their backline for the second half of the season.
