Tottenham Makes Last-Minute Bid for Aston Villa’s Leon Bailey
According to reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham Hotspur has made a late inquiry about signing Aston Villa winger Leon Bailey before the transfer window closes. Manager Ange Postecoglou is still looking to strengthen his attacking options after recently acquiring defender Kevin Danso on loan from RC Lens.
Romano revealed that both Tottenham and Manchester United have contacted Aston Villa to inquire about Bailey’s availability. However, Villa are currently reluctant to sell the Jamaican international. Romano stated: “Both clubs called to be informed about Bailey. But at the moment, there are still no open doors from Aston Villa. We’ll see what happens on deadline day.”
Bailey has struggled to replicate his form from last season, scoring just one goal with three assists in 29 appearances so far this campaign. However, Villa manager Unai Emery still views him as an important player, saying: “We need him. Leon is a very specific player for us as a winger, threatening in behind.”
In the 2023/24 season, Bailey impressed with 10 goals and 9 assists in 35 Premier League appearances. At his best, the 26-year-old can be a dynamic attacking threat. With Tottenham looking to boost their forward options before the deadline, Bailey could be an intriguing last-minute target if Villa change their stance.
As the transfer window enters its final hours, it remains to be seen if Tottenham can convince Aston Villa to part ways with Bailey. Postecoglou will be hoping to add another attacking option to his squad as Spurs push for a top-four finish in the Premier League.
