Tottenham Mulls £50M+ Sale of Key Player, Eyes 24-Year-Old as Replacement
Tottenham Hotspur is reportedly prepared to sell a high-performing regular this summer as part of efforts to reshape the squad and generate funds. The club has already identified a potential replacement within their ranks.
According to reliable sources, including journalist Matt Law, Tottenham and manager Ange Postecoglou may part ways after the season, regardless of their Europa League performance. This follows Spurs’ 18th Premier League defeat against Nottingham Forest on Easter Monday.
The North London club’s lack of squad depth compared to other top Premier League sides has been evident this season, exacerbated by numerous injuries to key players. This issue needs addressing in the upcoming transfer window.
Winger Dejan Kulusevski criticized Tottenham’s transfer policy, stating: “Top clubs have been doing this for years. They know exactly what they’re doing. They bring in many players ready for multiple competitions. We weren’t prepared this year due to injuries and early-season mistakes, which we’re now paying for.”
Journalist Graeme Bailey reports that Tottenham plans to strengthen “almost all areas” of the squad in the next transfer window. However, they must first raise funds through player sales.
One potential departure is star right-back Pedro Porro. The emergence of 24-year-old Djed Spence as an impressive full-back option provides Spurs with a ready-made replacement for the Spaniard.
Tottenham is reportedly “ready to sell” Porro to boost their transfer budget but will demand over £50 million for the former Manchester City and Sporting Lisbon defender. This would represent a small profit on the £40 million they initially paid.
While Porro has impressed since joining Tottenham, the club’s need to reinforce multiple squad areas takes precedence. Spence has demonstrated his capability to secure a regular starting position on either flank.
The 25-year-old Porro, described as “sensational” in some performances since joining Spurs under Antonio Conte, was previously a target for Real Madrid before they shifted focus to Trent Alexander-Arnold.
