Tottenham Open Negotiations for Brentford’s Yoane Wissa
Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly entered into talks to sign Brentford striker Yoane Wissa before the January transfer window closes. The North London club is looking to bolster their attacking options as they aim to turn their season around under manager Ange Postecoglou.
According to journalist Santi Aouna, Spurs have made initial contact with both Brentford and Wissa’s representatives to express their interest in the 28-year-old forward. Wissa has been in excellent form this season, scoring 12 goals in 24 appearances across all competitions.
The Congolese international joined Brentford in 2021 for a fee of just £8.5 million and has proven to be a shrewd acquisition. Bees manager Thomas Frank recently praised Wissa’s goalscoring abilities, stating: “Wissa has always been a goalscorer. He scored seven goals in each of his first two Premier League seasons, despite limited playing time. It’s remarkable.”
However, Frank has also insisted that Wissa is not for sale, which could complicate Tottenham’s pursuit. The striker’s impressive performances, including a goal and assist in Brentford’s 3-1 win at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last season, have likely caught the eye of Spurs’ recruitment team.
With Tottenham struggling for consistency and dealing with injury problems, the addition of a proven Premier League goalscorer like Wissa could provide a much-needed boost to their attack. It remains to be seen whether a deal can be struck before the transfer deadline, but this is certainly a situation worth monitoring in the coming days.
