Tottenham Pursues Ex-Chelsea Defender in Pre-Summer Move
Tottenham Hotspur has reportedly made an early move to secure the services of former Chelsea center-back Andreas Christensen ahead of the summer transfer window. The North London club is looking to strengthen their defensive lineup for the upcoming season.
According to sources in Spain, Spurs have submitted an offer of around £13 million for the Danish international, who currently plays for Barcelona. Christensen’s contract with the Catalan giants runs until 2026, but he may be available for a relatively modest fee.
Tottenham’s technical director Johan Lange appears to be getting a head start on summer recruitment, with improving the team’s defensive options a clear priority. The club has struggled with injuries in central defense this season, even attempting a late January loan move for Monaco’s Axel Disasi.
However, there are some concerns about pursuing Christensen. The 28-year-old has spent much of this campaign sidelined with an Achilles tendon injury. Given Tottenham’s recent injury woes, signing another player with fitness issues could be risky.
While Christensen is a talented defender on his day and can also fill in as a midfielder when needed, manager Ange Postecoglou may prefer more reliable options as he looks to build a consistent starting lineup next season.
As Tottenham push to secure European football for next season, strengthening the squad will be crucial. The club will need to weigh the potential benefits of Christensen’s experience and versatility against his recent injury record before deciding whether to follow through on their interest.
