Tottenham Pursuing £25m “Very Fast” Center-Back for January Transfer

Tottenham Hotspur are actively seeking defensive reinforcements for the January transfer window, with RC Lens center-back Abdukodir Khusanov emerging as a key target. The North London club has reportedly made an approach for the 20-year-old Uzbekistan international, who is valued at around £25 million.

Spurs’ interest in Khusanov comes amid an injury crisis in their defensive line, with Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero, and Ben Davies all sidelined. This has forced manager Ange Postecoglou to improvise, using teenage midfielder Archie Gray as a makeshift center-back in recent matches.

Khusanov is described as a physically gifted defender with impressive speed and power. Lens coach Will Still praised the young player’s athleticism, stating, “Kodir is extremely fast. He’s a complete athlete – we joked that he could have competed in all sports for Uzbekistan at the Olympics.”

RC Lens are reportedly open to selling Khusanov as they aim to raise around £37 million through player sales. The French club has instructed super-agent Jorge Mendes to find potential buyers for the defender in January.

Tottenham face competition for Khusanov’s signature, with Newcastle United, Manchester City, Leicester City, and RB Leipzig also expressing interest. The pursuit of Khusanov aligns with Spurs’ strategy of targeting young, high-potential defenders to strengthen their squad depth.

As the January transfer window approaches, Tottenham’s technical director Johan Lange and chairman Daniel Levy are exploring multiple defensive options. Other reported targets include Getafe’s Omar Alderete and Feyenoord’s David Hancko, highlighting the club’s determination to address their defensive vulnerabilities.
