Tottenham should consider selling Postecoglou’s disappointing signing

Since Ange Postecoglou took over as Tottenham Hotspur manager about 18 months ago, he has generally made good transfer decisions. Players like Micky van de Ven, James Maddison, and Brennan Johnson have improved the team. However, one signing that hasn’t worked out as hoped is Radu Dragusin.

Dragusin joined Spurs from Genoa in January for £26.7 million after Postecoglou reportedly “really wanted” to sign him. While the Romanian defender has had some decent performances filling in for injured teammates, he has also made costly mistakes and looked out of his depth at times.

In Europa League matches, Dragusin has struggled, picking up a red card against Qarabağ and gifting a goal to Napoli’s Victor Osimhen against Galatasaray. He also had a poor showing in the recent loss to Rangers. In Premier League games, Dragusin started in disappointing defeats to Bournemouth, Chelsea and Ipswich Town. One journalist even described his performance against Ipswich as an “absolute horror show.”

While Dragusin may be good enough to play in the Premier League, he does not appear to be at the level required to be an important player for a club with Tottenham’s ambitions. If Spurs want to progress under Postecoglou, they should consider selling Dragusin in the summer transfer window and reinvesting in a more reliable defensive option.

The club shouldn’t make any hasty decisions during the January window given their current injury issues. However, come summer, parting ways with Dragusin could be the best move for both player and club. His signing has not worked out as hoped, and Tottenham may need to cut their losses to continue improving the squad.
