Tottenham Submit Late Bid for “Quality” French Defender
With the transfer window closing soon, Tottenham Hotspur are making a last-ditch effort to bolster their defensive options. The club has reportedly made a £20 million bid for Burnley’s promising young center-back Maxime Esteve.
The 22-year-old French defender has been a standout performer for Burnley in the Championship this season. Esteve has started all 30 league matches so far, helping his side keep an impressive eight consecutive clean sheets.
Tottenham’s interest in Esteve comes after their £70 million offer for Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi was rejected earlier in the day. The club has also been linked with Chelsea’s Axel Disasi, but appear to have shifted focus to the Burnley youngster.
Esteve, a left-footed center-back, could provide better balance to Tottenham’s defense compared to the right-footed Disasi. His statistics this season are also more impressive than Disasi’s, with Esteve winning a higher percentage of tackles and aerial duels.
While Burnley are reportedly demanding £30 million for Esteve, Tottenham will hope to negotiate a deal before the 11pm deadline. The young Frenchman’s potential and impressive form make him an intriguing target as Spurs look to strengthen their backline for the remainder of the season.
If successful, this move could prove to be a shrewd piece of business for Tottenham, addressing their defensive needs with a promising young talent who has already shown his quality in English football.
