Tottenham Target £75m Premier League Forward as Solanke Replacement
Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly considering a big-money move for Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Matheus Cunha as they look to bolster their attacking options this summer. The Brazilian forward has impressed for Wolves this season, scoring 14 Premier League goals.
Spurs signed Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth last year in a deal worth up to £65 million, but the English striker has struggled to make an impact at the club. Solanke has managed just 7 league goals this season, falling well short of expectations.
Now, according to reports from Spain, Tottenham are one of several Premier League clubs interested in acquiring Cunha from Wolves. The report claims interested parties are willing to spend up to £75 million to secure the 25-year-old’s signature.
Cunha has significantly outperformed Solanke this season, scoring twice as many goals despite having fewer high-quality chances. The Brazilian has also created more opportunities for teammates, registering 12 big chances created compared to Solanke’s 6.
With Solanke failing to deliver consistent quality in front of goal, Tottenham appear to view Cunha as a potential upgrade who could provide both goals and creativity to their attack. At just £10 million more than the Solanke deal, Cunha could prove to be excellent value if he can replicate his Wolves form in North London.
Spurs will likely face competition for Cunha’s signature, with Arsenal, Manchester United and Newcastle also reportedly interested. However, Tottenham will hope the promise of regular first-team football could tempt the Brazilian to make the move to North London this summer.
