Tottenham Targeting “Complete” Center-Back as Lange Works Behind the Scenes
According to reliable journalist Dan Kilpatrick of Standard Sport, Tottenham Hotspur are targeting a ‘complete’ center-back for the January transfer window. Technical director Johan Lange is said to be working discreetly on Spurs’ recruitment plans for the winter period.
Manager Ange Postecoglou is facing a defensive crisis, with Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero not expected back until 2025. Recent injury to Radu Dragusin has further depleted Tottenham’s center-back options ahead of their upcoming Premier League match against Wolves.
Postecoglou emphasized the importance of the January window, stating: “If we can add what we need, it could help make this a successful season. We’re not far off in the league, we’re in a cup semi-final, and still in a good position in Europe. But we need reinforcements – the players need help and the club is working hard to make that happen.”
Kilpatrick reports that Lange is likely to pursue ‘under the radar’ signings. One confirmed target is RC Lens defender Abdukodir Khusanov. The 20-year-old Uzbekistan international has impressed in Ligue 1 and could be available for around £25 million. Tottenham have reportedly already made an approach, though they face competition from Newcastle United.
Lens coach Will Still praised Khusanov’s abilities: “Kodir is incredibly fast and athletic. We joked he could have competed in all Olympic sports for Uzbekistan – he’s that complete of a player.”
As Tottenham deal with injuries and look to strengthen their squad, all eyes will be on their January transfer activity. The addition of a versatile center-back like Khusanov could provide a major boost for the second half of the season.
