Tottenham’s Defensive Nightmare: Romero’s Value Takes a Hit After Woeful Display

Tottenham Hotspur’s disappointing season continued with a disastrous 4-2 defeat away to Wolverhampton Wanderers. While goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario made several costly errors, center-back Cristian Romero’s performance was equally concerning for Spurs fans.

Romero, who has been linked with a £100 million move to Real Madrid, did little to justify such a hefty price tag. His mistake directly led to Wolves’ third goal, as he lost possession cheaply before being easily brushed aside by Rayan Ait-Nouri.

Spurs reporter Alasdair Gold described Romero’s error as a “calamity” and gave the Argentine defender a meager 3/10 rating. Gold noted that Romero “just wasn’t good enough on the day” and made an “utter mess” for the crucial third goal.

While Romero is known for his ability on the ball, his defensive lapses continue to be a major liability for Tottenham. This latest poor showing suggests Spurs chairman Daniel Levy would be fortunate to receive even half of the reported £100 million valuation for the error-prone defender.

With Tottenham’s Champions League hopes fading after winning just four of their last 16 league matches, Romero’s future at the club looks increasingly uncertain. His tendency for costly mistakes could see his transfer value plummet further if his form does not improve dramatically.
