Tottenham’s Rising Star: Archie Gray Compared to Arsenal’s Lewis-Skelly
Since Ange Postecoglou took charge of Tottenham Hotspur nearly two years ago, the club has undergone a significant transformation. While results on the pitch may not have drastically improved, the team’s playing style has become more entertaining for fans compared to previous managers.
Postecoglou’s most notable impact has been on the squad composition, with several established players departing and exciting new talents arriving. This season, the Premier League has seen an impressive array of young prospects emerging across various clubs.
At Tottenham, Lucas Bergvall has been a standout performer. The 19-year-old Swedish midfielder, signed from Djurgårdens for £8.5 million last winter, has become increasingly important to the first team. His versatile skillset allows him to break up play defensively and initiate attacks with powerful runs or precise passing.
Another rising star at Spurs is 17-year-old Mikey Moore, who has contributed a goal and two assists in just 632 minutes of first-team action. James Maddison even drew comparisons between Moore and Neymar Jr.
Across North London, Arsenal’s Ethan Nwaneri has also made significant strides this season, scoring eight goals and providing an assist in 1087 first-team minutes at just 18 years old.
However, when it comes to teenage talents in the spotlight, Arsenal’s Myles Lewis-Skelly has garnered the most attention. But Tottenham fans need not be envious, as they appear to have their own version of the 18-year-old in Archie Gray.
Gray, who joined Spurs last summer for around £30 million, shares several key similarities with Lewis-Skelly. Both are primarily central midfielders who have been utilized in defensive positions due to injuries. Gray has made 19 appearances at center-back, seven at right-back, five at left-back, and only three in defensive midfield this season.
Similarly, Lewis-Skelly has featured 23 times as a left-back and just twice in defensive midfield for Arsenal. Both players are highly regarded for their age, with Lewis-Skelly already earning a senior England cap and Gray being described as a potential “£100 million player” by football analyst Ben Mattinson.
While Lewis-Skelly certainly appears to be a top prospect with a bright future ahead, the same can be said for Gray. Given their current trajectories, it wouldn’t be surprising to see both players lining up together for England in the coming years.
