Tottenham’s Spence Hails Former Rennes Teammate Doué as ‘Next Neymar’
Djed Spence, the 24-year-old Tottenham Hotspur defender, recently shared glowing praise for his former Stade Rennais teammate Désiré Doué, 19, during a televised interview.
Despite their brief time together during Spence’s loan spell at Rennes in late 2022/2023, the French youngster clearly left a lasting impression. When asked about standout players he’s worked with, Spence didn’t hesitate to highlight Doué, drawing a flattering comparison to Brazilian superstar Neymar.
“He’s a generational talent,” Spence enthused. “He reminds me so much of Neymar – it’s like he’s Neymar reincarnated.”
Recalling their training sessions at Rennes, Spence added, “I was immediately struck by his skill. I thought, ‘Who is this guy? He’s going to be phenomenal.’ And now he’s proving it at Paris Saint-Germain.”
PSG secured Doué’s signature last summer, outbidding several top clubs including Bayern Munich. The move has paid off handsomely, with Doué notching 7 goals and 11 assists for the Parisian giants. His outstanding performances also earned him a debut call-up to the French national team, where he made his first appearance as a substitute against Croatia in a recent match.
Spence’s high praise and Doué’s rapid rise suggest that football fans should keep a close eye on this emerging talent as he continues to develop at PSG and potentially on the international stage.
