During the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup quarter-final match between Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich, a devastating incident occurred involving Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma and German forward Jamal Musiala. The collision resulted in a severe injury to Musiala, leaving Donnarumma visibly distressed.
The match, held in Atlanta, saw Donnarumma make several crucial saves to keep the score level. Just before halftime, he rushed out to intercept Musiala. In an unfortunate turn of events, Musiala fell awkwardly, appearing to fracture his left ankle.
Donnarumma, who witnessed the injury up close, was immediately aware of its severity and became visibly shaken. Players from both teams attempted to console the Italian goalkeeper, assuring him that the incident was not his fault.
As medical staff attended to Musiala, Donnarumma left the field in tears at halftime. The young German talent, who had recently signed a contract extension until 2030, was carried off on a stretcher.
Musiala, 22, has had an impressive career trajectory, having spent time in Southampton and Chelsea`s youth academies before joining Bayern Munich in 2020. He has already earned 40 caps for the German national team, scoring eight goals.
This incident comes just months after Donnarumma himself suffered an accidental injury in December, which left him with a prominent scar on his cheek.
