Juventus head coach Igor Tudor has joined the chorus of managers calling for changes to the summer transfer window. Tudor believes the current system, where transfers can still occur after the season begins, is detrimental to team preparation and focus.
As Juventus prepares for their Serie A opener against Parma on Sunday, the club is still actively engaged in transfer negotiations. Brazilian midfielders Douglas Luiz and Arthur Melo are expected to depart, while discussions continue regarding PSG forward Randal Kolo Muani.
In a recent interview with Sky Sport Italia, Tudor expressed his frustration with the ongoing transfer activities: “To be honest, I try not to pay too much attention to transfer rumors because it can be maddening. Every coach struggles during this period. I dislike that the window remains open as it undermines our daily work and preparation, which are crucial.”
Tudor advocates for closing the transfer window at least a week before the season commences. He explained, “We hope this will change. Ideally, the window should close a week prior to the season`s start. After that, whatever happens, happens. Of course, every coach wants the strongest possible squad. Sometimes you get what you want, sometimes you don`t. The key is to accept the situation and concentrate on the players at your disposal and the work on the pitch.”
This sentiment echoes a growing concern among football managers who find the current transfer window timing disruptive to their pre-season preparations and early-season matches. As the debate continues, it remains to be seen whether football authorities will consider implementing changes to address these concerns in future seasons.
