Martin Payero, the 26-year-old Argentine midfielder currently playing for Udinese, has caught the attention of several clubs outside Italy. Brazilian teams Palmeiras and Atletico Mineiro have shown interest in acquiring the player.
In Europe, Spanish club Villarreal has emerged as the frontrunner, demonstrating the most concrete interest in Payero. This follows an earlier offer from Greek side AEK Athens.
The current valuation for Payero stands at approximately €10 million, including bonuses. However, negotiations are still ongoing, and it remains to be seen if any club will meet this price or if improved offers will be made in the coming days.
Payero joined Udinese in 2023 from English club Middlesbrough for a fee of €3 million. Since then, he has become an integral part of the Serie A club`s squad, making 54 appearances and contributing three goals and four assists.
Despite his importance to the team, Payero`s 2024-25 season was hampered by injuries, causing him to miss 11 games. This situation, combined with the interest from other clubs, may lead Udinese to consider selling the player if a suitable offer is received.
As the transfer window progresses, all eyes will be on Payero`s future, with Villarreal and the Brazilian clubs poised to make their moves for the talented midfielder.
