UEFA Qualification Scenarios for Serie A Clubs in 2025
As the competition for European spots intensifies in Serie A, multiple avenues remain for Italian clubs to secure places in UEFA tournaments.
While five Italian teams participated in the Champions League this season due to Italy’s top-two UEFA ranking, a repeat seems unlikely as they’ve fallen behind England and Spain. Nevertheless, opportunities still exist to boost Italy’s presence in European competitions.
Potential European Qualification Routes for Italian Teams
Currently, the top four Serie A finishers would enter the Champions League, with fifth place and the Coppa Italia winner qualifying for the Europa League. The sixth-placed team would secure a Conference League spot.
If the Coppa Italia champion has already qualified for Europe, their Europa League spot transfers to the sixth-placed Serie A team, with seventh place entering the Conference League.
Fiorentina, still competing in the Conference League quarter-finals, could automatically qualify for the Europa League by winning the tournament – a final they’ve reached in the past two seasons.
Similarly, Lazio’s participation in the Europa League quarter-finals means they could secure a Champions League spot by winning that competition.
These alternative qualification paths provide additional opportunities for Italian clubs to represent their country in European tournaments next season.
