Valencia Expresses Gratitude to Real Madrid for Flood Relief Support
Prior to the commencement of the 12th round match in the Spanish La Liga between Valencia and Real Madrid, a heartwarming gesture unfolded at the Mestalla Stadium. The scoreboard displayed a simple yet powerful message: “Thank you.” In a touching ceremony, Valencia’s captain Jose Gaya presented a commemorative photo of the Mestalla to Real Madrid’s captain Lucas Vazquez.
This gesture was Valencia’s way of expressing gratitude to Real Madrid for their support during the recent catastrophic flooding. The Madrid-based club had generously donated 1 million euros to aid those affected by the natural disaster.
In late October 2024, Valencia faced a severe crisis as heavy rains led to widespread flooding. The region was placed under a red alert, with rainfall levels reaching record highs not seen since September 11, 1966, when the local municipality recorded 520 liters per square meter. This calamity resulted in a tragic loss of over 150 lives.
The floods, caused by Storm Dana, were particularly devastating, leading to the cancellation of several La Liga matches. Real Madrid’s generous contribution played a crucial role in the relief efforts, demonstrating the unity and solidarity within the Spanish football community during times of crisis.
