Jamie Vardy, the former Leicester City star, has opened up about his biggest inspiration in football – Italian legend Alessandro Del Piero. The 38-year-old striker, who recently joined Cremonese on a free transfer, shared his thoughts ahead of his possible Serie A debut.
In an interview with DAZN, Vardy expressed his admiration for Del Piero: “When I was younger, Del Piero was my idol. Watching him play was incredible. He scored almost every week, which was really motivating for me. Now that I`m here in Italy, I`m excited to try and do the same.”
Discussing his move to Cremonese, Vardy said he feels a strong connection with head coach Davide Nicola: “His passion for the club and the game, along with his desire for progress and a team of fighters – that describes me perfectly.”
Vardy acknowledges the challenges ahead in Serie A: “Every match will be tough. I may need to adapt my style slightly, but I`m looking forward to it. We`ll focus on our team performance rather than worrying about opponents.”
The English striker is currently separated from his family as they await visas, but he remains positive: “They`re really excited about joining me here soon.”
As he prepares for his potential debut against Hellas Verona, Vardy had a message for Cremonese fans: “I`m here to fight, to score, and to help this club make its mark. Forza Cremonese!”
