Nigerian international Victor Boniface has addressed the collapse of his proposed transfer to AC Milan, citing previous injuries as the main reason the deal fell through. The 24-year-old Bayer Leverkusen striker was expected to join the Italian club on an initial loan with a purchase option, but the move broke down following medical examinations last week.
Boniface Clarifies Failed Milan Transfer
“The transfer didn`t materialize due to my injury history,” Boniface explained in his first interview since the failed move. “I`ve had two knee surgeries on my right leg in the past, which has been an ongoing issue.”
The striker underwent knee operations in 2019 and 2020, and missed several matches in the 2024-25 season because of muscle problems. Boniface has faced criticism in Germany over his injury record, but he fired back at detractors: “Try to reach my level before insulting me.”
Milan Secures Harder After Boniface Deal Collapses
Boniface remains under contract with Bayer Leverkusen until June 2028. He has netted 32 goals in 61 appearances for the Bundesliga side, helping them clinch the league title in 2023-24 under manager Xabi Alonso.
Following the unsuccessful pursuit of Boniface, AC Milan have reached an agreement to sign Sporting CP forward Conrad Harder for €27 million including add-ons.
