Vidic Reveals Serie A Transfer That Almost Happened Before Man United Move
In a recent interview, former Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic shared details about a transfer to Serie A that nearly materialized before his move to Old Trafford.
The Serbian defender, who won five Premier League titles and reached three Champions League finals with United, disclosed that he had come close to joining Fiorentina in the summer of 2006. Vidic stated, “I had reached an agreement with Fiorentina, but then Liverpool expressed interest as well.”
However, neither of those potential moves came to fruition. Instead, Vidic signed with Manchester United for approximately €8.4 million that summer, beginning an illustrious eight-year spell at the club.
Interestingly, Vidic did eventually play in Serie A towards the end of his career. After leaving United in 2014, he spent his final two seasons with Inter Milan before retiring in 2016.
The defender’s revelation provides insight into the complex nature of football transfers and the various factors that can influence a player’s career trajectory. While Vidic’s time in Italy was ultimately brief, his stellar performances for Manchester United cemented his status as one of the Premier League’s greatest defenders.
