Vieira Optimistic Despite Genoa’s Narrow Loss to Juventus
Genoa manager Patrick Vieira expressed confidence in his team’s performance following their 1-0 defeat to Juventus. Despite the loss, Vieira believes Genoa merited at least a draw based on their strong showing.
The match at Allianz Stadium saw Juventus secure a victory through Kenan Yildiz’s goal from a challenging angle. However, Genoa dominated possession and created more scoring opportunities overall.
Vieira commented, “Our team displayed quality and character. This performance will boost our confidence moving forward. While I’m somewhat disappointed, I firmly believe we deserved a point. This experience will be valuable for our growth, both as a team and individually, especially for our developing young players.”
The coach explained Ruslan Malinovskyi’s absence from the starting lineup, citing recent illness. He praised the midfield trio of Onana, Frendrup, and Masini for their strong performances, noting they caused significant problems for Juventus.
Vieira highlighted a recurring theme in Genoa’s matches against top Serie A clubs, expressing frustration at not securing better results despite strong performances. “When we review our games against Inter, Napoli, Milan, and Juventus, we consistently deserved more. We must focus on refining details, as they ultimately make the difference,” he stated.
Since taking over as Genoa’s manager in November 2024, Vieira has led the team to six wins, seven draws, and five losses. His tenure has seen Genoa hold their own against top teams, including a goalless draw with Milan at San Siro and narrow losses to other elite clubs.
