Violent Clash Between Football Fans Leaves 10 Injured Near Udine
A serious incident occurred following a Serie A match between Udinese and Venezia, resulting in at least 10 injuries, including two police officers. The violence erupted after the game, which took place at the Blue Energy Arena in Udine and ended with a 3-2 victory for the home team.
A group of approximately 50 Udinese ultras, joined by supporters of Austria’s Salzburg club, ambushed a train carrying around 1,200 Venezia fans as it departed from Udine. The attack occurred at Basiliano station, just outside the city.
The assailants, many wearing hoods to conceal their identities, forced the train to stop by throwing flares, rocks, and smoke bombs onto the tracks. They then stormed the carriages armed with batons, metal bars, and other weapons, leading to a violent confrontation with the Venezia supporters.
Fortunately, the clash was brief, as police reinforcements quickly arrived on the scene, including a helicopter unit. The injured, among them two police officers, were taken to local hospitals for treatment.
This incident highlights the ongoing issue of football-related violence in Italy, despite efforts to curb such behavior. Authorities are investigating the attack and are expected to take action against those responsible.
