Despite Paris Saint-Germain’s 1-0 loss to Liverpool in the first leg of their Champions League Round of 16 tie, midfielder Vitinha (25) insists that Les Parisiens are capable of reversing the situation in the return fixture at Anfield.
PSG largely controlled the game at the Parc des Princes, but Liverpool’s goalkeeper Alisson Becker delivered a stellar performance, making nine crucial saves to thwart the home side’s attacks. In the final moments of regular time, Liverpool capitalized with a decisive goal from substitute Harvey Elliott, securing a vital away victory.
A disappointed Vitinha spoke to Canal+ following PSG’s defeat. The Portuguese midfielder expressed his frustration at Liverpool’s clinical efficiency, as Elliott scored on their first attempt on target. “It’s difficult when you dominate a match like this against such opposition, and they score from their only real chance,” he lamented. However, with the second leg yet to be played, PSG will travel to Anfield to face Liverpool, who currently lead the Premier League.
“We will demonstrate our true team identity and fighting spirit”, Vitinha asserted. “We will achieve victory there. Considering our performance in the first leg, we deserved to win. Similar to the beginning of the season, we created numerous opportunities but lacked the finishing touch.”
