West Ham Target Arsenal Defender as Injury Crisis Deepens
West Ham United have reportedly approached Arsenal regarding the potential signing of defender Kieran Tierney, as the London club looks to bolster their squad amid an injury crisis.
Manager Julen Lopetegui is facing selection headaches after star forward Jarrod Bowen suffered a foot injury that will sideline him for several weeks. Additionally, veteran striker Michail Antonio remains out long-term following a serious car accident in December.
Speaking ahead of West Ham’s match against Manchester City, Lopetegui confirmed the club is actively working on potential January signings:
“We have these two important losses [Bowen and Antonio]. The club knows our needs and is working on that. We must focus on preparing for Manchester City, but the club will certainly be working [on transfers].”
Reports suggest West Ham have inquired about Arsenal left-back Kieran Tierney, who is said to be keen on leaving the Gunners this month. The Scotland international has struggled for playing time this season and is rumored to favor a return to former club Celtic.
However, West Ham’s approach for the £120,000-per-week defender has apparently been rebuffed, with Tierney preferring a move back to Scotland. The 26-year-old’s contract at Arsenal expires in 2026, but he appears surplus to requirements under manager Mikel Arteta.
As injuries mount and a busy fixture list looms, Lopetegui will be hoping West Ham’s recruitment team can secure reinforcements before the January window closes. The Hammers face a challenging run of Premier League matches in the coming weeks as they look to climb the table.
