Wolves Should Consider Selling High-Earning Forward
Wolverhampton Wanderers are in a precarious position near the bottom of the Premier League table. While they’ve made one defensive signing this transfer window, manager Vitor Pereira is likely hoping to add more players before the deadline.
However, more crucial for Wolves’ survival chances is retaining key players like Matheus Cunha. The Brazilian forward has been directly involved in 44% of Wolves’ league goals this season, scoring 10 and assisting 4 in 21 appearances.
Despite interest from other clubs, Wolves should resist selling Cunha this month. Instead, they may want to consider offloading striker Fabio Silva, who is currently on loan at Las Palmas.
Silva has failed to live up to his £35 million price tag since joining Wolves in 2020. After underwhelming loan spells at Anderlecht, PSV, and Rangers, the Portuguese forward is now impressing in La Liga.
With Atletico Madrid reportedly interested, this summer may be Wolves’ last chance to recoup a decent fee for Silva. More importantly, his £80,000 per week wages are higher than Cunha’s £60,000 – an imbalance that needs addressing.
By selling Silva, Wolves could raise funds and free up wages to reinvest in the squad. With just 18 months left on his contract, the time is right for Wolves to cash in on Silva and focus resources on more impactful players like Cunha.
