Wolves submit opening bid for versatile defender Osayi-Samuel
With the January transfer window nearing its end, Wolverhampton Wanderers are still looking to bolster their defensive ranks. Reports indicate they have now made an initial £1 million offer for Fenerbahce’s Bright Osayi-Samuel, a player manager Vitor Pereira is keen to reunite with.
The versatile right-back, who can also play on the left, previously worked under Pereira at Fenerbahce. With Osayi-Samuel’s contract expiring at the end of the season, Wolves are hoping to secure a bargain deal before the Turkish club loses him on a free transfer.
However, Wolves face competition from Southampton, Crystal Palace and Fulham who are also reportedly interested in the Nigerian defender. The Midlands club will be hoping their existing relationship with Pereira gives them an edge in negotiations.
A move would mark Osayi-Samuel’s return to English football after leaving QPR in 2021. During his time at Loftus Road, he earned high praise from former manager Mark Warburton for his “blistering pace” and consistency.
With uncertainty surrounding the future of current left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri, Osayi-Samuel’s versatility could prove valuable for Wolves. The 25-year-old played 21 games under Pereira’s system at Fenerbahce and could slot in seamlessly if a deal is completed before the deadline.
As the transfer window enters its final days, Wolves will be hoping their opening bid is enough to fend off rival interest and bring the “blistering” defender to Molineux. His pace and Premier League experience could provide a boost to Wolves’ defensive options as they look to climb away from the relegation zone.
