Inter Milan will be without Piotr Zielinski for a significant period. Concerns about the muscle injury he sustained during the match against Monza quickly arose, leading him to leave the stadium on crutches. Subsequent medical examinations have confirmed that he will require a lengthy recovery period.
Zielinski entered the game against Monza in the 70th minute, replacing Mkhitaryan when the score was tied 2-2. Just three minutes later, while attempting a jump, the former Napoli player collapsed, immediately signaling for medical assistance and clutching his calf in pain. In the 73rd minute, coach Simone Inzaghi substituted him with Joaquin Correa.
Medical tests today revealed a lesion in his right calf. The official statement from Inter Milan stated: “Piotr Zieliński underwent clinical and instrumental tests today at the Humanitas Institute in Rozzano, following the injury sustained on Saturday evening during the match against Monza. The examination revealed a medial gastrocnemius muscle distension in his right leg. The Polish midfielder will be reassessed in the coming weeks.”
This is a serious injury to a crucial muscle for a football player, especially a midfielder. Zielinski is expected to be out for at least 45 days, a month and a half, during which he will focus on rehabilitation for a full recovery.
Inter’s schedule is very packed, making 45 days a considerable absence. Simone Inzaghi may hope to have him available for the Coppa Italia semi-final second leg against Milan, scheduled for April 23rd. Furthermore, the league match against Roma, set for the weekend of April 27th, could be very important in the Serie A title race.
