Zoumana Camara set to become Montpellier’s new head coach

Montpellier HSC appears to have found their new manager in Zoumana Camara, according to recent reports. The struggling Ligue 1 club is in desperate need of a turnaround as they face the threat of relegation to Ligue 2.

The appointment comes after Montpellier parted ways with interim manager Jean-Louis Gasset earlier this week. Gasset had been brought in temporarily following Michel Der Zakarian’s departure last October.

Camara brings a wealth of experience from his playing days in France, having won multiple titles with Paris Saint-Germain, including three Ligue 1 championships and several domestic cups.

With only six matches remaining in the season, Montpellier finds themselves at the bottom of the table with 15 points, 11 points away from the relegation play-off spot currently occupied by Stade de Reims.

This season, Camara has been working as a consultant for Ligue 1’s official broadcaster. Other candidates reportedly considered for the position included Pierre Sage, formerly of Olympique Lyonnais, and Jocelyn Gorvennec, who coached FC Nantes last season.

Montpellier has been a fixture in Ligue 1 since the 2009-10 season, with their crowning achievement coming when they clinched their first and only top-flight title two years later.
