Pascal Gross then equalized with a strike from a loose ball. Substitute Maxim de Cuyper completed the comeback, latching onto a pass from Kostoulas to score the winning goal.
While Manchester United, a six-time League Cup winner, exits the competition, Brighton continues their pursuit of a first major trophy. Youngster Lacey was a bright spot for United, though fellow prospect JJ Gabriel was absent.
