WHAT HAPPENED? The defender has confirmed in a video on social media that he’ll retire from soccer after Barcelona’s conflict towards Almeria on Saturday in La Liga. Pique has fallen out of favour on the Camp Nou this season, making simply three La Liga begins, and has determined to name time on his trophy-laden profession.
THE BIGGER PICTURE: Pique has slipped behind Ronald Araujo, Jules Kounde, Andreas Christensen and Eric Garcia within the pecking order at Barcelona this season and has spent many of the marketing campaign on the bench.
