Chelsea 6-3 Leeds: Blues Mount Stunning Second-Half Comeback in Nine-Goal Thriller

Chelsea staged a remarkable second-half fightback to overcome Leeds with a 6-3 victory in the EFL Cup fourth round at Stamford Bridge, despite being down by two goals at halftime.

Leeds held the advantage for a significant portion of the first half, taking a deserved lead through Tarik Muharemovic. Their lead was then extended three minutes after the restart by Brenden Aaronson.

However, Chelsea unleashed a torrent of five goals in the second half, with contributions from Cole Palmer, Pedro Neto, Danny Welbeck, and Valentin Barco, turning the tide of the match.

Leeds initially took the lead from a set-piece. Harry Wilson's delivery found Muharemovic at the far post, who managed to loop a header over the goalkeeper.

Despite late chances for Gittens, Barco, and Welbeck before halftime, Leeds went into the break with a deserved 1-0 lead.

In response, Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso made four substitutions at halftime, bringing on Cole Palmer, Pedro Neto, Morgan Rogers, and Reece James.

Despite the changes, Leeds struck again just three minutes into the second half.

Ethan Ampadu worked his way down the right and delivered a pull-back that Lukas Nmecha flicked into the path of Aaronson, who calmly slotted the ball into the bottom corner to make it 2-0.

Chelsea were awarded a penalty in the 52nd minute following a challenge involving Chavarria, and Cole Palmer converted from the spot, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way.

Just two minutes later, Palmer brought Chelsea level.

After Rogers kept the attack alive, Palmer received the ball, took his time, and curled a low shot around the Leeds defense into the bottom corner.

Chelsea completed their comeback in the 60th minute.

Palmer played a through ball to Rogers, who touched it into the path of Neto. The winger then curled a left-footed shot from the edge of the box into the bottom corner.

The momentum remained firmly with Chelsea, and Welbeck extended their lead to 4-2 five minutes later.

Rogers provided another assist, outpacing Muharemovic and pulling the ball back from the right. Welbeck executed a clever touch to evade two defenders before finishing past the goalkeeper.

Leeds showed resilience and pulled a goal back in the 75th minute.

Noah Okafor made a run into the box and squared the ball for Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who scored with a first-time finish.

Any hopes of a Leeds comeback were extinguished by Barco five minutes from time.

Palmer won possession in midfield, leading to Rogers being released down the right. His cross flashed across the goal, and after the goalkeeper failed to clear, Barco fired a left-footed finish into the far corner to restore Chelsea's two-goal advantage.

Welbeck then added the final goal in stoppage time.

Barco's attempted shot from the edge of the box was mishit, but the ball struck Welbeck's head and looped over the goalkeeper to seal the 6-3 victory.
