Aston Villa midfielder Leon Goretzka will not make his debut until after the international break. Goretzka, who recently transferred to Villa from Bayern Munich upon the expiry of his contract, was hoped to feature immediately for the team. He had not played since Germany's elimination from the World Cup. However, the 31-year-old German international has not yet regained full fitness and has experienced a setback, meaning his first appearance for Villa will now be in October.
Goretzka shared a message on Instagram: "Dear Villans. First of all, thank you for the incredible welcome. After my first few days at this club, the feeling that I’m exactly where I’m meant to be has grown stronger with each passing day. Unfortunately, my body has reacted to the increased workload after my time away from the pitch. It’s frustrating, but I need this short break now to come back at full strength. I’ll use the coming days, including the international break, to recover fully and I’ll be back ready to fight and give everything for you and for Villa. Can’t wait to see you on the pitch soon! Thank you for your support, Leon."
Goretzka's Debut Pushed Back
Aston Villa has yet to secure a win in their opening three Premier League matches. They suffered a loss to Brighton and Hove Albion, a home defeat against Arsenal, and a goalless draw with Hull City. The team is scheduled to play Club Brugge in the Champions League, followed by a home fixture against Nottingham Forest.
