Mancini's Intensity: From On-Field Directives to Joyful Victory

Italy secured a 4-1 victory over Turkey in the Nations League, climbing to second place in Group 1 of League A after France's win against Belgium. Coach Roberto Mancini was fully immersed in the match, directing his team with evident passion. He called back defenders Pio Esposito and Bastoni to adjust their position after a goal, and even humorously admonished goalkeeper Donnarumma for an overeager sortie, exclaiming, "Where the hell are you going, Gigio, for crying out loud!" The strong desire to win was palpable.

"Despite making changes, there was fatigue among everyone," Mancini stated. "We struggled a bit initially but then they did well to regain control of the game, create scoring chances, and score. It was a good game, even if it was our fourth." He explained the numerous substitutions were partly due to two players being on yellow cards and the referee appearing ready to issue more bookings. He also noted that players like Romano can adapt to playing as a box-to-box midfielder and need these matches to develop. "We have to continue. We're almost there. We'll see in November; we'll likely fight for it in Belgium."

Not everything was flawless. Mancini repeatedly called out Scamacca, who scored the opening goal, in the first half. His animated sideline behavior, however, was a rare sight. With the fourth consecutive match, Mancini understands the path ahead is challenging, and nothing is secured yet. In a month, Italy faces France at home and Belgium away. Concentration remains key.

"Turkey is not weak, and I think this was a very positive match," the coach added.

Mancini also praised Riccardo Calafiori, calling him "a leader, physically, technically, and mentally." He reiterated the positive results and the chance to qualify. "Players need to play these matches to raise their level. It will take some time for some, like Vergara, while Doumbia is a bit further along." Regarding Scamacca, Mancini clarified, "I took him off only because he was booked. He can do much more given his abilities, that's true."
