Infantino, the successor to Sepp Blatter, reiterated this during recent visits to Colombia, where he attended the inauguration of the new president, Abelardo de la Espriella, who is backed by Donald Trump, Infantino's staunch supporter. Trump has even gone as far as to label it a "terrible mistake" if football were to remove Infantino from his position.

Ironically, the American president did not express the same strong condemnation for Infantino's ill-fated plan to sell a stake in the World Cup, a proposal that collapsed due to widespread opposition from the football community. One might wonder if this was influenced by the fact that investment funds interested in this deal included one reportedly linked to the brother-in-law of Trump himself. In Colombia, the FIFA president was accompanied by the president of CONMEBOL, Alejandro Domínguez from Paraguay. Domínguez is a close ally of Infantino, who has now presented his latest radical idea: the "Project 2030," which envisions a 64-team World Cup. This plan has already been rejected by UEFA, Asia, and North, Central America, and the Caribbean. Consequently, if an election were held today, Infantino would not secure the necessary majority for re-election.
